Day 55, late morning; Corridors, Jumper Bay; Attn: Whoever [F]

Aiden sat in the darkness of the alcove, eyes closed as the enzyme coursed through his system, bringing him strength. He knew he couldn't remain here on Atlantis. They had heard the Good News and most of them had rejected it. Out there were millions of people, oppressed by Satan himself, and Atlantis was sitting idly, licking its wounds. He would ( Read more... )

Not long ago, Enid would have complained bitterly about being sent to so such menial tasks, but now all she could think was how happy she was to be an engineer again, rather than a geologist. The repetitiveness of the task made it easy to get lost in, too, and she worked quickly.

She'd checked and recalibrated twelve power juncture boxes today, and was just finishing her thirteenth when she heard the quiet sound of the transporter doors opening. Assuming it was someone with business in the jumper bay, as there'd been a lot of coming and going there today, she continued replacing the cover plate.

Aiden froze as he stepped out of the transporter at the sight of the woman in front of him. She was ignoring him, working on something, and he debated just walking past her, but he was still in scrubs with the tac vest on. As soon as she turned or caught sight of him out of the corner of her eye, she would know something was wrong. "Sorry," he whispered as he leveled the stunner and fired. She fell pretty hard, taking the Ancient cover for whatever she was working on down with her. He grimaced. He hadn't meant to hurt her so badly.

That couldn't be helped now, though. Aiden headed for the bay.

Cari focused on flying, wishing for once that the Ancient ship would fly faster, even though she usually wanted it to slow down. Not that any of them could feel any difference with the inertial dampeners. There was a sense in the back of her mind that they were moving faster, the jumper feeding her information.

Finally, the jumper made it to the city and the autopilot took over, lowering them down slowly. She wrinkled her brow as the HUD popped up, showing another live jumper in the bay. "Why would Heightmeyer leave her jumper running?" she asked no one in particular.

Adam frowned. That seemed strange, indeed. It didn't seem like her to forget to turn it off. Something must have happened, he thought. Had Ford managed to kidnap her to pilot the jumper?

"I don't know," Adam said. "She's not the type to forget to turn it off. Something must have happened."

He swallowed, and told himself to stay calm. He was worried for her, but it wouldn't do any of them good, if he let his feelings for her get the better of him. After all, there might be a simple explanation for that.

And in case something was wrong, they still had the P-90s, Adam thought. They'd stashed them in the back of the jumper, useless to carry them around while moving the Athosians' belongings.

It seemed to take forever for the jumper to set down, but as they got closer, Cari caught sight of the man stowing gear in the other live jumper in the bay. "Oh, man, it's Ford!" she exclaimed, then banged her fist on the console. "Come on, machine. Park already!"
