Day 54, early afternoon, Elizabeth's office, attn. Elizabeth, Rodney, Peter [F]

Rodney left the lab after he finished his call to Elizabeth and headed to her office. He had no clue why she was making such a big fuss over this, but decided not to risk upsetting her further. He'd find out soon enough what this was about.

Of course, she should have realized the moment she asked Peter to seal the records from John's... lapse, last night, that someone, namely some head of sciences, would notice and become curious. Elizabeth couldn't really fault him for it, either. This was one of the traits that made Rodney McKay the best possible head of sciences for Atlantis, after all. Maybe the best approach would be to tell him just that, as a small consolation for having to be satisfied with not finding out what had been sealed.

She tried for a conciliatory smile as Rodney appeared at her office door and she asked him in, reminding him to close the door behind him.

Rodney wasn't sure what to make of Elizabeth's smile - after she asked him to close the door. He closed the door and nervously clutched the laptop to his chest, trying to ready himself for whatever she was about to throw at him.

He handed her the pad with the log file Collins had tried to work on. "Um, this is, um, what Collins found, or rather, um, wasn't able to," he stammered.

"Have a seat, Rodney," Elizabeth said, seeing how nervous the man was. "I know exactly what you found," she said when he had settled in the chair across from her desk, "because I'm the one who asked for it to be blocked."

"What?" Rodney asked, as he followed her invitation and sat down. "You know?" The wheels were turning fast in his head and he tried to make heads and tails of the information. "Why did you ask for it to be blocked?"

"Because the information there would, coincidentally, reveal some fairly personal information about someone else who was behaving in an... indiscreet and ill advised manner recently," she explained with a fleeting grimace.

"That said, I owe you an apology," she continued, "because having blocked those files, I should have notified you straight away. I also should have known you'd notice them right away, and of course, you have, so good work." She offered him a self effacing smile then, hoping he'd take what she offered and not ask for more.
