Selen had laboured steadily on a couple of different varieties of incense while Radek planned, muttering to himself as he worked, most of the morning. They had broken for a light lunch, which Radek had more picked at than eaten.

The door chimed as Selen was shaping the mixtures into cones. He looked over at his lover. "Did you wish me to get that, carus?"

"Oh," Radek lifted his head suddenly, realizing only when Selen mentioned it that their door was chiming.

"Oh," he said again, realizing additionally that Selen's hands were covered with... something. "No, no, I can see you are busy. I will get it." He set his laptop aside, pushing himself up from the sofa stiffly.

"Moment!" he called as he made his way to the door, opening it a moment later.

Selen watched Radek open the door and saw their visitor was the healer Doctor Heightmeyer. He felt ill at ease as soon as he saw her. She was among the people who were making things so much more difficult for Radek while claiming to have sympathy for him and his best interests at heart. He did not believe she truly understood his lover, and yet she offered Radek advice and expected him to follow it.

Selen wished, not for the first time, that he could tell the woman to go away and leave them alone, but knew it to be a childish impulse. Radek relied on her good graces for the medicine he needed right now and so, for good or for ill, they had to tolerate her intrusions.

"Oh," Radek said when he saw who was at the door. "Dr Heightmeyer, please... please come in." He stammered a bit on her name, a little undone by the sudden change of mood her appearance brought about in him. He hadn't thought about her, or the unknown consequences of his... breakdown, for most of the afternoon, but now the worries all came crashing back, along with the reflexive urge to protect himself from her.

It would be, he realized suddenly as he walked with her to the sofa, a bad idea to tell her that he was planning on leaving with the Athosians tomorrow. Would Selen understand that, however? Would he be hurt if he heard Radek tell Heighmeyer that he had some other plans? Would he speak of it and reveal those plans to the doctor?

Radek directed his gaze back to Selen, meeting his eyes briefly and pleading silently, trust me; follow my lead. He turned back to Heightmeyer then, and asked her if she wanted any tea.

Kate saw hesitation flit across Radek's features before he asked her about tea and it dismayed her. When had she become the ultimate bad guy? "No thank you, Radek. I just wanted to stop by and see how you're settling in," she replied. She figured maybe only part of what they discussed would be real and that was being optimistic. He didn't trust her for whatever reason.
