John looked at his watch and sighed. He had hoped the recon mission would have returned by now and he'd have a decent excuse for missing his appointment with the shrink, but there was to be no such luck. He was of the opinion that there wasn't anything she could do that a good stiff drink or four couldn't do better. John closed out the reports he ( Read more... )

Kate reviewed Sheppard's file in preparation for his appointment. Now she waited for him to arrive and figured that right about now he was trying to come up with ideas to avoid her. The man's file was an interesting read no matter how many times she read it and Kate wondered if he'd be like his file suggested.

John arrived outside Heightmeyer's office door and glanced at his watch. 1558. He had two minutes and he wasn't arriving early. He leaned back against the corridor wall, giving a charming smile to a woman in science blue as she walked by. If the angels were on his side, the recon mission would return right about now, but the angels had never liked him. 1559. He squared his shoulders and faced the door. When the time clicked over to 1600, John hit the panel to bleep Heightmeyer. You never knew. She might still have a patient.

Kate heard the door chime and rose to greet who she hoped was Major Sheppard. She opened to door and saw that it was indeed her next client. His punctuality wasn't exactly surprising. "Hello, Major. Please come in and have a seat."

"Doctor," John greeted, giving her his charming smile, though he knew it wouldn't have much effect. He looked around, seeing she'd gone for the non-shrinky look-- a few chairs arranged as if for casual conversation. She didn't indicate a chair, so he picked one with a good view of the horizon out the windows. It lit his face, but gave him something to look at besides her 'I'm your friend and trying to understand and help you' expressions.

Kate knew that Sheppard gave her his look just to do so and that it didn't really work on her. She did think that he needed to talk but told himself that it wouldn't help. But then again a whole lifetime of issues couldn't be dealt with in an hour.

Kate sat in the seat opposite of him and just decided to jump in. "Major Sheppard, lets start with how you're doing. On a scale of one through ten, with one being horrible and ten being great, where do you rank yourself? she asked. She knew he would think it was a hokey shrinky question but it still was a good one.
