Adam again went through the information for the upcoming mission in his mind. He'd changed into his BDU, and had his equipment with him. With a quick glance he checked the time; he still had enough time for a quick snack with Kate in the mess before he had to head to the armoury.

He entered the mess and as he lined up caught sight of Kate, who sat at the far end of the room by one of the windows. He had a quick chat with the chef and with two other marines at the food counter, then grabbed his tray and neared the table Kate had chosen.

"Hey," he gave Kate an encouraging smile. "How are you?"

Kate returned Adam's smile with a half one of her own. She saw that he was already dressed to go and that just made it all the more real. "Would you believe me if I said I was doing good?" she asked. She didn't want to bring him down or make him worry but he was all she had. They'd gotten back together and now she was waving goodbye.

Adam sat down the tray as he took the seat next to Kate. "No," he said and reached for her hand. "I wouldn't." She hadn't said much when he'd called to inform her about the mission, but he knew that she was worried. Maybe she'd worry less if he gave her a bit more information. He was aware that he was treading a fine line there, but he didn't want her to worry herself sick.

"It is just a recon mission," he said. "We're just gathering information."

Kate held Adam's hand tightly in her own. His thumb was rubbing circles on the back of her hand trying to soothe her but it wasn't working. She looked into his eyes and knew he was telling her what he could. A recon mission? Kate thought about it for a moment and wondered if it would stay that way. It seemed to her that it had a bigger chance to turn into a run for their lives mission. "Adam, what if you get caught?" she asked the hard question first.

"There is the possibility that one of us gets caught," Adam admitted. He didn't want to lie to Kate about the dangers. "But the premise of the mission is to gather information and not to risk our lives. Security is top priority."
