Day 43, control/gate room attn, Radek, Calvin, Rodney, Chuck [F]

Oct 14, 2007 00:23

The room was shaking as the ship/city dipped into the atmosphere of the planet. Rodney had been expecting it be rough and held on tight to his console. His head was aching, and he was sick with fear and because of the lack of sleep. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had more than two hours of sleep since the attack. No one of those from the ( Read more... )

Chuck had wedged himself under his main console in the gateroom as soon as they entered atmo. There was simply no way to secure people down any better at the moment, and minutes ... no, seconds were going to count. He'd managed to get communications online three times so far, but every time they thought they had the problem licked, it cropped up somewhere else. Nothing that would outright kill them ... no: that would be counter-productive to the Wraith's needs ( ... )

Radek nodded. "Yes, McKay, the gate should be our priority." He checked the gun that was still in his thigh holster--the fight to keep their city theirs wasn't over yet, at least not as far as he was concerned. They were safe, yes, for this moment, but that was no guarantee of the next. He pushed away from the console leisurely and followed Rodney out of the room, keeping an eye out for anything unusual.

He caught the motion, Radek's hand sliding down to the gun strapped to his thigh, from the corner of his eyes and instinctively reached for his own. The hairs in his neck rose when he remembered how he'd used it. Trying to push back the thought he quickened his pace as they entered the corridor ( ... )

Radek nodded. "Of course. It would be most problematic for you to injure yourself at this point, given how low we are on both supplies and available people." His tone was cool--it was a matter of equations, of things that made sense, and that was all it could be at this point. There were no connections; these people couldn't be the family they'd once been to him. Because he couldn't handle losing anymore family. Emilia was gone; Miles was still missing. Radek knew on some level he'd mentally crossed a line he swore he never would again, but it was too late to let that bother him. He had work to do.

Chuck had just completed a secondary sweep of the communications system when it went down again.

"Goddamnit!" he muttered angrily. Over and over again something would triggering the system to crash. He'd root one problem out only to have another show up. It was maddening, and possibly life-threatening ... he didn't know when the last wraith was discovered but no one believed they'd truly managed to rout all of them from hiding. And they can live forever, Chuck reminded himself grimly.

He glanced up for a moment, seeing Doctors McKay and Zelenka enter the gateroom below. They both looked grim. Hell, we probably all look grim, Chuck thought. No one had slept, no one had eaten a proper meal -- not for days.

His console blipped at him, and he forced his attention back to the problem at hand: figuring out the goddamned virsuses and crap that were still tripping the system.
