Day 4 - Morning - Jumper Bay, Attn: Lorne, Markham, Stackhouse

Mar 02, 2007 00:22

After his brief time with Drs. Martins and Conelly, John headed up to the jumper bay. The cavernous room echoed with his footsteps as he walked into it, surveying the array of ships waiting there. He hadn't had a chance to come up here since the first day, although he could tell a few other people had been around. He strode over to the jumper he ( Read more... )

Back in the jumper again, John replied, "Sure, go ahead. This will probably take a while, all things considered. Bring enough for four." Hmm. It looked like the jumper had racks above the benches and a few other places things could be mounted. They should probably think about getting some basic supply kits made up for them before missions started.

Stackhouse had been in the mess pouring himself his morning coffee when he heard the radio. He smiled privately, head down and smelling his drink as he listened to Sheppard's message. "I'm on my way." He felt responsible enough over Markham that he'd swing by the other man's quarters if he didn't hear a response, on his way to the jumper bay, just to make sure. "Stackhouse out."

Jay froze for a moment, when his CO's voice cracked through the radio.

Today was the day and it seemed that, no, this wasn't actually something that would go away if he ignored it. He took a deep breath and expelled it in a long huff before clicking his earpiece and responding.

"Affirmative, sir. I'll be right there."

He hadn't even had breakfast.

Five minutes later he swiped the jumperbay door sensor and walked in apprehensively, not sure where Sheppard was until he spotted one of the jumpers with its rear door open.

He grimaced a little and headed over.

Having heard from Markham he simply made his way to the jumper bay, still sipping at his almost-too-hot-just-right coffee out of the tin mug. His brain wouldn't be able to absorb anything at all until he'd had his java, and since there was only so much to go around, he had to savour every last drop. The commercials were right, or they had to be.

He reached the bay on Markham's heels and scanned the room with a practiced gaze: he was so used to scoping out a space for all possible exits and threats that it was no longer done through conscious effort. At first glance it seemed secure, and the path to the nearest Puddle Jumper was clear and short. Having been inside one of them in action, he knew them to be defensible in time of need and there would be no problem getting the hangar open for an escape if there needed to be one.

You never know out here.

Hearing the soft squeak of rubber soles on the metallic floor, Jay glanced over his shoulder and was relieved to see Stackhouse had followed him in.

It was pretty pathetic to want someone there to effectively 'hold his hand' but he really was utterly petrified and having a supportive friend present would ease it slightly. He hoped.

"Hey, man," he said, offering a meek grin.
