All in all, it had been a wild day. He and Suzanne had eaten lunch amidst slowly growing whispers. They'd kept it light, given the public venue, and arranged to meet for dinner and the rest of their movie that evening

Ruiz entered the mess hall weary and hungry. After she had returned the unused explosive and detonator to the armory, she had spent a couple hours helping clean up the mess in the power control center. Lunch had been a hastily eaten power bar and a bottle of water. Not nearly enough for Mama Teresa's growing girl!
She joined the line and looked around, hoping to talk to Dixon. The plan had been to talk to him this afternoon, but... explosions had a way of messing with your plans. It took only moments to grab a plate and fill it, then she was looking around for a likely place to sit.
There was no one around she knew well enough to want to make small talk with, so she grabbed an empty table and settled in. Hopefully, someone would join her.
Kerry tried not to be obvious as he picked up a portion that could have nourished three like him. His stomach had been protesting all day because of the missed lunch. But problems weren't going to solve themselves, and scientists had been dispatch for a maximum efficiency, which he didn't find very helpful.
He grabbed his tray and looked around the mess hall. He suddenly spotted a young woman seating alone at one of the tables. He put his tray in front of hers and smiled.
Caridad looked up as someone stopped by the table and asked "Mind if I join you?" in a gorgeous French accent. She smiled up at him. He seemed a bit younger than her, friendly.
She nodded and gestured to the chair in front of her, wanting to swallow before speaking. "Make yourself at home. Bit hungry, are you?" His plate was heaping, but hers was just as full. The emergency had made many miss lunch. She made sure to smile as she said it, though, to make sure he knew she was teasing.
Suzanne entered the mess, easily spotting Lee at a table. She waved and made her way over.
"So," she said, smiling. "You made it alive after all, eh?" She glanced at the pile next to him. "Oh, and my clothes! Thank you." She grinned and leaned forward to whisper in her ear. "Wanna bet the third of the expedition that didn't yet hear the rumours are nearly fainting from shock right now?"
She stood up. "Come on," she gestured. "Let's get some food. I'm starving. Fending off rumourmongers takes more energy than I realised."
He laughed, realising her exclamation was going to cause even more tongues to wag. He'd have to ask Cisneros what the wild rumours were tomorrow when he saw him. The man would know.
They walked side by side to the line. "So how are Doctors Zelenka and McKay, do you know? The rumour mill's been full of horror stories, despite Doctor Weir's attempts to stem the tide." Feeling at once self-conscious and like it was the most natural thing in the world, he slid his arm around her, resting his hand in the small of her back.
