What Happened to Gum?

I do not, as a rule, chew gum. However, the other day I spotted a package of Wrigley's Doublemint on the checkout stand at Jewel and decided that I wanted some. I looked at the package and it didn't say "sugar free" anywhere--a good sign or so I thought. Then I hunted down the ingredients. MUCH to my surprise, it contained not only sugar but ( Read more... )

You gave the reason yourself: "that sugar leeches out pretty quickly." Americans seem to want gum to be an everlasting gobstopper, with flavor and sweetness that lasts all day.

Adams gums are still all sugar. That would be Beeman's, Blackjack, and Clove. Glee Gum (at Trader Joe's) is, too.

I bet you can find pure sugar gum at Dulce Landia, too.

My Trader Joe's doesn't carry Glee Gum any longer.. going to try World Market next time I'm in that area.

Dentyne 'Spicy Cinnamon' doesn't have any aspartame in it, but has a listing of 'natural and artifical flavors'.

There's a relatively decent selection of aspartame-free gum that you can order via Amazon...

Constant gum chewer here. I live on good old Beeman's and Blackjack, which someone else listed above, when I can find them. I think Clark's Teaberry also fits the description you want, but I haven't got a pack around to check the list for ya... Last I found that was at a Cracker Barrel.

I have minor trouble with aspartame, and it seems to be in everything these days... Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll be looking into these brands as well...

I ordered some spearmint Glee. I'll let you know how those taste. I miss true spearmint flavor in things, it seems to have been entirely eclipsed by peppermint. Spearmint is the better flavor in my opinion.
