CHAPTER 5: DARKNESS FALLS

THE SCENARIO
Previously on atla_battle... Tensions between the Fire Nation royal family mount to a deadly high; Azula, elsewhere, must deal with an injured Ty Lee. Toph begins to master her newfound skills as old relations are renewed and rebuilt-just to become tense all over again. Read more here!
He had never before realized with such intensity the cruel, unmerciful gaze that seemed to be perpetually gracing his father's face. His heart was pounding hard against his ribs; his breathing was shallow.
"Son," Ozai spat. "I've given you so many chances."
"What chances?" Zuko said, perhaps more quickly and nervously than he had intended. "You banished me-rejected my apologies-what kind of chance is that?"
Ozai laughed humorlessly. "And if I had let you remain in the Royal Palace?" He stepped toward Zuko, amber eyes cold. "You bring shame upon the family, Zuko," he hissed. "It was best to kick you out."
Zuko took a step back. "I'm stronger now, Father." Flames burst up around him, white-hot, as he pulled off his shirt and assumed a fighting stance. "Agni Kai," he breathed, fire licking at his face, beads of sweat dripping down his temple. "No restrictions. No rules. I'll show you, Father, how wrong you are."
Wordlessly, Ozai shrugged off his outer robe and pulled off his shirt, taking a fighting stance in response.
A moment of silence followed. Ozai's lip curled.
"You're trembling."
Zuko responded by yelling out and lashing out, sending a bright ball of fire hurtling at Ozai.

I matched you up by your new points total, which can be found on the Character Status page (warning: very messy).
Challenges function a little differently from here on out. Since this is a LIMS, we're testing the skills of each iconmaker. So, I'm going to do my best to push you guys out of your comfort zones and see exactly how creative and flexible you guys can be ;) That is, your challenge will be something that I don't typically see you do in your icons. Challenges, therefore, will relate very little to the plot (hence why I can post this before I write the plot, lol).
Now, enough of my rambling.
All examples were made by me. And see, these matchups are totally cracktastic. XD

Challenge: Grungy/Antique
A simple theme: Your icon must have a grungy and/or antique feel to it.
Examples:

Challenge: Duplicated Image
Your icon must feature the same image duplicated. The duplicated image can be resized, mirrored, whatever-as long as it's been duplicated. Remember, there are many ways to do this, so don't have it look too similar to an example ^^;

Challenge: Extreme Close-Up
This one was hard to think up, because you two have pretty much opposite iconing styles, so to find a middle ground was very, very difficult XD Basically, your icon must be a close-up of a character or object. If you're iconing, say, Aang, then his face (or part of it) must fill pretty much the entire icon.

(I don't do this often, either, so it was hard to scrounge up just these three icons XD)

Oh god. You two are really versatile and have used many of the same techniques, so I gave up trying to find something that you guys hadn't done. So I took the easy way out XD
To be fair, you must use this picture, and ONLY this picture (meaning that you can't go off and find it at a higher resolution). Of course, textures and the like are all permitted, as long as you used only this picture.

HOW TO SUBMIT
Submit all icons to this screened post in the following manner:

REMEMBER:
■ One icon per iconmaker.
■ Icons must fit LJ standards: 100x100 or smaller; 40kB or smaller.
■ Icons may not feature fanart, contain excessive vulgarity, use bases made by someone else, or be plagiarized. In addition to that, icons must be made fresh for the challenge.
■ Icons do not have to contain the character that you play. They can if you want to, though.
■ Do not advertise or use your icon until after the entire challenge has been concluded. This way, your identity remains anonymous.
Icons are due on Friday, May 25 at 7:00PM PST. You are not allowed an extension or a skip because that'd be unfair for your opponent. If you do not submit, you are automatically eliminated.
