YouTube's re-vamped video page

Apr 06, 2010 02:54

I've only uploaded two new videos since YouTube started with the "new" style for the video viewing page. While I think that the new "rating" is new and I don't want to form an opinion about it yet, I think some other "features" have gone FUBAR here...

Details and a small rant behind the cut... )

It should be an add-on, not the main thing!

Bad code makes browsers crash!
Heavy code makes browsers slow or incompatible!
Incompatible pages means angry or lost customers!

So why do it?

THEY'RE TOO LAZY TO TEST IT!..... ;/ *grrrrrrrrrrr*

Additionally - like every similar company - Google wants to place "Chrome" on every computer out there. So: they make sure it works with Chrome - and thus appear to have the better browser because every other browser is now "second class" to them.
Personal preference aside, I have to use IE and the last thing I would do or recommend is installing more than one browser...
As for lazy: I doubt anybody could test all browsers and all feature combinations possible... UI-Tests are manual tests. They don't need to test every bit of JavaScript if there's a fallback solution in place.

The root of all evil is the person that decides that a web site has to look and feel like a desktop application...
