I'm a bit confused - are you having Kain refer to Cecil as brother in the sense of a comrade, or as a blood brother? I'm getting the blood brother vibe, which makes me think I missed/confused something very big in the game...*laughs*

Anyway, I love the dynamic between Golbez and Kain, as always. There's just so much electricity between them.

In the four various translations of the game I've worked my way through, it eventually comes together that Cecil and Kain were raised together and are as close as blood brothers; they are certainly very close friends, but the King raised both of them. I tend to play up that angle fairly strongly in my fics.

Alright, the tone of Every Light makes sense, Kain's a wordy bastard.

Anyway!

"You prostitute your honour to buy his happiness at the cost of your own, fighting his battles for him, dirtying your hands that he need not stoop to such things. You hold your strength in check lest you harm him."

Best use of the word prostitute ever, and it puts VERY STRANGE images in my head.

Admittedly, my favorite part was that Valvalicia doing her thing in the beginning, but this is me, and probably not as indicative of your writing as your current audience. Just so you know, if you meant to create perving, it worked.

...And the last line made me think of Star Wars.

Funny stuff aside, I think it was well-balanced, thoughtful, and energetic.

Kain/Valvalicia is hands-down my favourite het pairing for this game. I have lots of stuff that features the two of them (including an OT3 with Rydia) and I can pretty much always write them. (I am not sure what it says about me that my comfort pairing involves a fiend, but there you go.)

I don't think I intentionally created perving when I was writing it, but in retrospect I'm very happy it's there, because I perv on the three of them hardcore.
