Nice one! What a great origin story for their partnership. I like how he calculates that it's worth his while to lose a contest that he probably couldn't have won anyway.

Is there any canon indication that Fran knew Reddas before meeting Balthier, or is that your own invention? Either way, I approve; I'm just curious if there's a hint I haven't picked up on yet.

There's no canon indication as far as I know; that one's mine. It seemed like a good idea at the time I was writing it. XD

shanaqui wanted a "drinking contest" type prompt, and it amuses me to think that Balthier has absolutely no head for madhu. He can drink as much ale as he pleases, and wine is no problem, but madhu does him in entirely.

An interesting take on how Balthier and Fran meet. I particularly liked Balthier's hesitance when the bangaa mentions Fran hasn't been asked about a drinking contest.
