Yes, this one was definitely more uplifting. ^_^

Ashe is beautiful here. The anger, the forcefulness, the baiting (and the immediate regret afterwards). This is almost exactly how things must have gone in the early days of the Resistance, no matter which poor soul ended up being Ashe's teacher. XD Vossler has his moments too; I love how he simply cannot get out "Amalia", especially the first time where it curdles him like sour milk. *grins* And also how protective, how possessive he is of her--if she has to learn this, then it's going to be from him, dammit.

Some excellent details in this fic. I really liked the training portions, both Ashe's exhaustion (and her notice of the other recruits' lesser exhaustion) and the specific aspects of swordplay. Too bad they've hurt some of the ideas I had for a possible fic of my own. =P (Hmm...then again, the idea of Vossler being Ashe's teacher might make it a lot more interesting ( ... )

Vossler-in-my-head is a mass of contradictions: Ashe should be protected, but if she's going to be taught swordplay, he will do it and no other. Ashe should be apart from the men because otherwise how can she lead; yet he has seen that she is more effective when she leads from the ground, as it were. They should all remember that she is the princess, but to say it could potentially be deadly. He's just a big ol' mess of internal conflict.

This story's just from a couple weeks ago - gen_challenge ended June 30 and I think I posted this one a day or two ahead of deadline, so not that old :)

As far as your own fic idea, to me, that's the joy of fanfic: playing with different ideas as to how something came about. So go for it! :)
