Stopping by (on a snowy evening?) to review. You use a phrase or less to capture each character, and it works. This is all excellent, but the phrase "all demanding her attention for their small worries and triumphs" is the best, as far as I'm concerned. Little kids really are like that.

You do a good job drawing a distinction between her two lives, which, although technically connected, don't necessarily coincide anymore. She has her own world now, separate from her friends.

"this is the only home she's ever known"---I have been playing with that point myself as of late. I think it's probably tremendously difficult to be a mother when you have absolutely no standard for comparison, but she knows it's right. I think it's a good thing to emphasize.

Anyways, I adore it.
