Yay yay yay yay yay. The Young Adult Fantasy website which catling and I were working for our class is finally DONE!!!! So go and check it out and play the madlibs :)
I guess you'd have to say he was "pre-classical," i.e., pre-Tolkien and Lewis. Although he did hang out with them a bit -- they thought he was terrible because his fantasy is completely a-moral -- or rather based on Mt.Olympus, not Christian morality.
He wrote some truly amazing scenes -- I've always thought his stuff sould be done as a play or movie.
That time at Paganalia, when you spoke of the satisfaction of "ripping apart a dead animal with your teeth," I thought of an Eddison scene in which the wise wizard character finds one of Lady Fiorina's handmaidens "playing with her food." (She was a lynx whenever she wasn't serving her ladyship :)
actually, there were a lot of authors that we left out. but time constrants (it was due today) and the fact that we are busy college students made it so that we each chose ONE author to talk about per page.Ï
Good work, both of you. Give Catling the same regards.
I would have put Wrede (Cimorene rocks the casbah!) under 'Modern', if you were putting Pierce there, seeing as Alanna was written before and during the same period; I'd have put someone like Lloyd Alexander as 'Middle'.
Ain't it obvious I've been reading since age 2.5 and work in a children's library?
And I did sex Madlibs.
Great work!
