Heliogenna with Three Cranes Grove, ADF

Dec 21, 2010 02:09

As I sit here this Solstice Eve, keeping vigil at work while the babies are sleeping, I can't help but look back on where we've been, where we are, and where we are going--much reflected in this year's Yule Rite omens.

Ritual Recap and Reflections )

adf, three cranes, yule, 3cg, hellenic, ritual, helios, heliogenna

*blushes* I hope to make you proud, bard-sister! :)

I still don't get the whole "allowed" to do the waters thing, though...it's probably a hold-over from pre-crane days, but we all (and I mean my old PG, and then myself singly in Milwaukee and West Allis) did the waters together, and for many months I hallowed the waters in ritual by myself. I guess I'm confused at where the authority comes from - is it a Crane thing? Is it an ADF aspect I have not known about for years?
It leaves me wondering wtf we (as in, pre-crane *pun intended*) were doing and stuff. Then again, pre-crane rites were so very old-school and different.

*snuggles*

We decided in a meeting earlier this year that certain parts of ritual should be handled by more experienced grove members, particularly gates and waters. We have two grove priests and a handful of "well-seasoned" celebrants who are underutilized, and with a grove as large as ours, we've decided that doing these big magical acts at a high day is not the best time to get one's feet wet. That's what Druid Moons are for. :)

Seeing as I am neither well-seasoned nor trained clergy, I asked if it would be okay for me to do the Waters, and they said yes, which made me happy. ♥

That, I understand, actually. I was just concerned/confused it was an "only 'x' people get to do it" (which I didn't really believe, but you know my head.)
I consider myself 'ADF well-seasoned' if not Crane-seasoned :D I'm more duck.

certain parts of ritual are magical acts that require a degree of familiarity and more importantly comfort before being done publicly. when one or both of those things are not there, it impacts the rite. why not excellence.
