Samhain

In Honor of the Ancestors

At Samhain, we celebrate our Honored Dead and the God Cernunnos, Horned God, Keeper of the Ways.

A bit, yes :)

Birch
leafy twig
and little tree
and fresh young shrub.

Or:

Birch has the greenest leaves of any shrub;
Loki was fortunate in his deceit.

Or:

The Birch bears no fruit; yet without seed it brings forth suckers,
for it is generated from its leaves.
Splendid are its branches and gloriously adorned
its lofty crown which reaches to the skies.

I changed to entry to include the "real" omens. I still find we are being called to resist stagnation during this time, but Berkano suggests more of an emphasis on internal growth than outward fertility: "the birch bears no fruit," yet the "lofty crown" still reaches the skies.

Grow, my pretties!
