Coleus are wonderful and seem to like some bright light-I used to grow them in SW facing windows in Seattle (pretty far north). Pinching them back, they'd branch, and pretty soon I'd have a coleus bush instead of a plant. Victory for me the year I sold 25 cent starts back to the nursery as 25 dollar bushes. Coleus are still one of my favorites after 35 years.
Any chance you can fit an AeroGarden in a corner of your dorm room desk? They have corner size AeroGardens now-and even little 3 pod units. If you put your coleus near it they'd benefit from the light-and the light runs on a timer so it won't keep anyone awake at night.
I don't think we could fit an AeroGarden in here, though I've thought about it. At the moment we have to deal with an extra set of furniture so we're a bit cramped, but maybe sometime in the future I could get something small.
The cuttings I have seem to like the strong afternoon light we get here, and they're putting down good roots already. I've thought that maybe this holiday season I can give people the plants I make from the cuttings if they want them. I still can't get over how nifty this form of asexual reproduction is from a biological standpoint. :)

Hope your new roomies are good to you.
