First night, some good, some annoying

Aug 31, 2008 22:42

Currently there are two other roommates, with a third "theoretical roommate" or "Schrodinger's roommate" who may or may not join us at the end of the week. It's a decent room with a nice view, and I've more or less gotten my stuff set up. It has a view of the Boston Common that I'll get in the daylight. I still need some stuff at CVS, but ( Read more... )

Glad he left!

Your poster is here, I will mail it. Do you need a (conventional) phone?

It was a good thing he left, since I'm a bit too tired to whip out the Whoop Ass tonight.

It looks like we will indeed be in need of a land line phone, since it appears that the other two don't have it in them to procure one. The answering machine would also be helpful, and other than shipping it wouldn't cost us any money.

Also, tell dad that the coleus perked up again after the car ride, when it wasn't looking so good.

I can't put my hands on the phone, but I know it is here somewhere. Will send.

Glad Doofus is gone.

Dad says hi, he knows you will be fine. Love you!

Found the phone! It was given to my mom by a gay male friend because she didn't have one witn an answering device. I know he'd be pleased that you were using it.

Do you need a mirror? I have that kind of tacky rattan-framed mirror-on-a-stand that I got when Pavel was visiting. It can sit on top of a dresser (not a wall type). It occurred to me that I didn't notice a mirror in the room.

And, and, and ... :P Did you ever pack extra sheets or towels? Might as well use some for padding in the box.

Also, I think I was wrong about what I said about UPS not going to addresses that are box numbers. That only applies to POST OFFICE BOXES. Duh.

I'm hoping that'll be the case. I just hope this girl doesn't plan on going out to do God-knows-what every night, otherwise we might need to have a chat.

I don't know if your dorm is like the one I was in, but there were rules about members of the opposite sex being in the rooms. They had to be signed in at the front desk, were escorted by the dorm residnet at all times and could only be there during certain hours.

That's how it is here for non-dorm residents. In theory if someone lives in the same dorm they can just switch rooms, but you're responsible for them. As for "special" friends, they follow the same rules as everyone else, and they don't want them staying in one place for more than 3 out of 7 weekdays. And your roommate does reserve the right to them out if they get too obnoxious.

The nicer one of the two ones I have right now asked if she could bring her boyfriend next week, and I said it was okay with me if they behave themselves. That's more or less my policy on it, that you can do whatever you want in here as long as you respect me and stay out of trouble.

In my dorm opposite sex guests could not spend the night in your room. Visiting hours were noon to midnight. Same sex guests could spend the night, but only one or two nights I believe.

Huh. Sounds like they've loosened up over here in that regard, then. I know that some colleges don't allow opposite sex overnight guests still, but this is a coed college and they don't seem as concerned about that (the main thing they do is pass out condoms and basically say "do what you want, but be safe"). The only thing they absolutely don't want you doing is drinking or doing drugs, that they have a zero tolerance policy to. As in, the first time they catch you they may kick you out. I'm starting to wonder about roommate K and if she's going to get herself in serious trouble, but even if she does I'm not going to cover for her. I'm here to study, not get drunk and do illegal things.

Don't forget to pull the blinds when changing. Yes, people do look in windows.
