Last night I went swing dancing. I went with my friend Michael, and I saw many people that I knew, including David G, Jacob, David K, Heather, and Kora. It turned out that many of these people already knew each other:
  • David G and David K went to high school together
  • Kora is Michael's cousin
  • Jacob and David K are both Jewish

I think it is partially because the same university is this social foundation for all the people that you meet. It’s much the same for me, as many of the people I know I know from work. Since we recruit very heavily from a very small number of schools, and a lot of my friends are from former internships, once every few weeks we run into a situation like we did this past weekend at mount Baker where we thought total strangers were going to come join us on the trip only to walk into the room and say “ hey! I haven’t seen you a long time; how are you doing?”
