I still love steno pads (which are still called steno pads), mostly because they have the spiral at the top and therefore not under my hand/arm half the time. And, as you say, they're exactly the right size. I used to write out story ideas and other things backwards on one -- well, not backwards per se, but I'd write the first line at the bottom and the second line above it, at least making things more confusing for anyone trying to read it. Not that anyone did, but still. It made my teenage self feel better.
But I'm glad the wiki sounds exciting for you. :) A 3-D steno book.
Seeing this end of the writing process is interesting, I wish I had the patience, I normally start a story get about half done than abandon it because new and better ideas come into my head. Congrats on finishing part one and good luck with part two (how many parts to book 3 are there?). I hope the wiki comes together, that will be very cool.
Two parts--though I may have to whack part of part one, and stick it into part two...dunno yet. Part two keeps morphing, just as part one keeps getting longer on me, before I even get to the Venn battle.
the roommate might not like it... but I love the idea of papers flying from hangers all over the room, in a certain relationship to time and space - and I suppose a wiki is the same thing, but somehow the idea that bazillions of papers are flying around my laptop doesn't work for me... (though the organization sounds AWESOME and if I didn't fail at HTML I'd ask to help)
and the process of writing details are interesting :) Thanks for sharing, and good luck!
I think that's about how I create and write, with the whole "seeing" thing. We had a discussion over at Fledglingquills about different ways of writing once-- "excavating" vs. "constructing" (forgive me if I've already mentioned this sometime-- while my memory is very good for story details, it spazzes out most appallingly in other ways!)
"My own cooking tends to be dash and smash, one eye on the clock, one eye on my book, the third eye--oops, no third eye..."
That is definitely the way to cook!
And I know what you mean about organization, and I think hanging stuff from the ceiling actually sounds like a really good idea.
The wiki sounds brilliant. I hope it comes to pass, too.
