Alice felt it was probably past time she met this other vampire. Ghost. Ghost vampire. Whatever he was. She couldn't see much of him in her gift, but it wasn't just that he appeared hazy to her; she suspected it had at least as much to do with the fact that he didn't intend to do anything. Dead people didn't make plans.
Well, she did. And her family did. But they were a bit different, weren't they. At least they could open doors and things.
She was out on the streets that night, a girl with a mission, and as generally happened when Alice set out to do something, she succeeded. She found the ghost wandering aimlessly down a side street and placed herself directly in his way.
"Hello there. Mitchell, isn't it?" She smiled winningly. "I'm Alice. Alice Cullen."
Mitchell stopped short, completely taken by surprise and instantly suspicious. His eyes narrowed. "How do you know my name?"
He didn't want to be bothered. He briefly considered just popping away--he could do that now--but if this Alice Cullen was determined to talk to him, and it sure looked like she was, it probably wouldn't help.
"Eavesdropping," Alice admitted blithely, without a hint of shame. "It's something I do sometimes. My brothers find it very annoying." Her eyes twinkled. She could clearly see the suspicion in his face, but chose to pretend it wasn't there. "Sometimes, though, it's the only way to know things. And I do like knowing things."
Mitchell scowled and turned to walk away. It might actually be more effective than popping off, which from his experience just confused the person on the other end. "You don't want to know me."

Well, it had the advantage of directness.
