It was almost worrying how easily Wes responded to threats against his tools, even though he knew Dok would never do anything to actually damage them. Really, he just wanted to see him away from the lab for once, since it seemed like he'd lived down there since Kurt's arrival.

Wes arrived on his own, because he was quickly learning it took Kurt forever to decide what to wear, even if it was just a casual night out-- one thing Wes was forever grateful for about his particular upbringing; there wasn't exactly an emphasis on fashion that he'd paid attention to. That night he wore a dark blue button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled, tan slacks and brown shoes. His hair had been combed into it's normal part, but the humidity wreaked havoc on it and and his bangs flopped somewhat to either side of his face ( ... )

Bod looked up, then set the butter knife down on the table, greeting Wes with a rare, warm smile. "I'm well, Wes, how are you?" The comment about Kurt didn't surprise him; in fact, it sounded so much like the Kurt he knew that it had a sort of calming effect on him. "Sounds like him," he said, laughing. "It's fine-- I said 'around 7' and it's just barely that now."

He hadn't spent a great deal of time with Wes. He knew that Wes could sing-- he'd done so, and very well, during the town's production of 'Bare'-- what was that, two years ago? But he wasn't sure if he was in the mood to do so tonight, and he certainly didn't want to pressure him into doing something he didn't want to do.

So, he decided to bring it up in a random, roundabout way. "Does Kurt sing around the house?" he asked. "You know, the first time I met him-- the first time he was in town-- it was here. Neil and Lulu saw him sitting by himself, and made friends with him."

"Busy." Wes replied, his tone weary but holding some of the same, seemingly endless excitement. "Made a huge breakthrough recently... I mean huge, it might just be the first piece to the puzzle of blowing this whole place wide open." It was hard not to sound a little hopeful or proud at the statement.

At the next question, Wes chuckled. "All the time...though to be fair so do Dok and I, down in the lab..." The weekend marathons of 80's German pop/rock were getting to be something of a ritual. "It helps me think sometimes." Not exactly true, but Dok loved hearing Wes sing, and in those moments it was something small and intimate and theirs, like homemade ice cream and moon pies. "Sometimes the amount of music Kurt and Dok have in common is...a little disturbing." This was said with a gentle tone though, as really, it only ever served to make him laugh when they'd hum or sing snatches of the same song, one right after the other ( ... )

"...oh." He wasn't entirely sure how to respond to that. He was probably one of the few people who didn't want anything to happen to the way Aternaville worked. If something harmed the thin fabric of their strange reality, he could easily lose the person who mattered most to him... and no amount of curiosity, scientific or otherwise, could interest him in messing with that. "Um... that's really great. Exciting!"

It entertained him that Dok and Kurt would have similar taste in music. "Oh yeah?" he said. "Does Dok like Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson?"

Blaine raised his eyebrows as Bod hurried off, but in the short time he'd known Bod, he'd found him to be a little... skittish, so maybe jumping up like that without an explanation was in his nature. Besides, he'd said his boyfriend was coming, and maybe he'd just spotted him and gotten excited to greet him.

Still, he laughed a little before turning to Wes. "Wonder what's with him," he said. Then he told himself over and over and over not to ask Wes about Kurt. "So... how's Kurt?"

Damnit.

Blaine hadn't seen--he had no way of knowing that they reason Wes' hands trembled suddenly were because he saw someone he cared about tricked and embarrassed...though Cochrane knew how he did it, Bod had convinced Kurt to stay. "No idea." Keeping his voice even was difficult for a moment.

Eventually Wes knew Blaine would notice, if Kurt got up to sing, and then it would look like he'd betrayed two people he cared about.

"He's...holding up." Wes smiled slightly--not entirely a lie, from his peripheral vision Kurt didn't look quite so aghast. "He just needs time."

'Chochrane help me, Bod, you are dead for this. Dead.'

"So what's you're usual choice of song to start things off?" He asked Blaine, flipping through book, though he had a pretty good idea what he was going for.

With a small smile back and a nod, Blaine turned back down to the book. "Thanks," he said quietly, then let the subject drop. As long as he knew Kurt was doing alright, that he wasn't so alone and scared anymore, at least he could just miss him, and not miss him and be worried sick about him.

"Not sure I have a usual. Anything bouncy that plays on the radio a lot tends to be my go-to. Katy Perry, Pink, Beyonce... lot of female singers, apparently," he laughed.

Wes nodded, doing his best to attempt to relax in spite of he innate tenseness of the situation. If he was going to survive this to throttle Bod, he needed to instill some level of calm to his nerves and do his best not to glace over at the bar.

"Sometimes Dok and I pick something randomly, as long as one of us knows the tune." His partner seemed to hold to the idea that--whether you could sing or not--part of the fundamental elements of karaoke involved some level of personal embarrassment--the part of Wes that still moped every time his mother had forced him into a musical had a hard time disagreeing with that. "I can't get my voice up that high without straining though, and mom beat it into me not to try." He shook his head slightly. "I keep thinking I'll need picture evidence to convince her I still sing in my spare time..."
