It was cold outside, but not cold enough to keep Merlin from enjoying a walk with Daisy. He had very little weighing his mind down. Christmas had been lovely, and the twins' birthday. New Year's had been perfect. Things in the castle were still maybe a tiny bit strange, all things considered, but overall Merlin had no reason to be anything less than happy as he strolled down the sidewalk, Daisy leading enthusiastically.
He diverted from his usual park route, keen on more fresh air, and headed though town. It was on the corner of a sidewalk, at one of the busstops, that he saw an unfamiliar face. Generally, unfamiliar faces in Aternaville meant one thing: a new arrival. He didn't look particularly upset or confused, as those who were just dropped here often did, but he did look a little thin and stood like he might be tired. Merlin approached with a grin. "Hi! You look new."
He raised his eyebrows at the new face and sighed at the comment. He'd been getting that a lot.
"Yep," he said with a nod, glancing down at the small dog waddle next to her owner. "Nice dog. Uh," he switched a cigarette that he was just about to light to his other hand and offered his right hand to shake.
"Nick." The fingerless gloves he'd found at Plato's had turned out to be a good investment, he decided as he delicately handled the cigarette in his other hand.
"Thank you! Her name's Daisy, she was a birthday present a few years ago." Merlin took his hand and shook it, keeping hold of the leash in the other. It was only then he remembered he'd left his gloves at home. Again. Arthur would disapprove loudly when he realized. Oh well. "Nice to meet you, Nick, I'm Merlin. Do you er-- need help with anything? This place can be a little... overwhelming at first." His way of asking if Nick had been exposed to the utter insanity of the town yet. It was possible he'd come here on his own accord and had no idea yet.
Nick made no hesitation to bend down and start petting the dog. He may be a punk or new wave rocker but dammit, that dog was cute! So he dangled the unlit cig in his lips so he could have two hands for the fluffy critter
