"What kind of teacher would I be if I wasn't?" he joked. Noting the clock on his laptop, he realized that it was getting pretty late and they should be getting to sleep, despite how much he wanted to stay up and work.

Another great thing about living with Wes -- the moment that he settled in, whether he said anything or not, it always made Dok want to stop what he was doing to join him. So far, exhaustion hadn't been much of a factor in his daily life, even as hectic as it had become.

So, naturally, he saved his work and closed his laptop, placing it and the few papers he had scattered around on his beside table.

Once settled in, he gave a sigh of contentment, wrapping an arm around his partner in the dim light of what had since become their room ( ... )

"A well liked teacher." Wes jabbed back, knowing that Dok already had great rapport with his students--but he wasn't surprised--Dok was easy to like.

But then, Wes was also terribly, terribly biased.

Hearing the suggestion to open the window a little made a pair of dark brown brows furrow deeply. This was starting to be a pattern, one he'd noticed when he first started living with Dok. The man was always careful about changing. Even when he ruined a shirt in the kitchen his first instinct seemed to be to seek privacy in changing. At first Wes had considered it a shy quirk, but the more he thought about it...

"It'll waste energy though, and with all the money we're putting into the lab this month it would be silly to have higher heating bills than we need." Logic was always a good place to start, especially when Wes had the sinking feeling he'd stumbled across something unexpected. With a gentle exhale of breath, he put a hand on the older man's shoulder. "Just for the night, I promise."

Dok laughed. "Then I guess I'll need to make apology cupcakes to go with this test, huh?" he grinned. He didn't intend to go easy on his students in the least -- mostly because by now, he'd taught them enough to be able to pass such rigorous testing. It was something that he was proud of -- his teaching practices were measured and precise; slow enough that they weren't overwhelming, but informative enough that they'd already covered a little more than what he'd planned to have done by now.

Still, Dok was worried to hear that logic, mostly because he couldn't find a way around it quickly enough. "Well, I mean, I don't necessarily need that plasma expressor right this instant," he reasoned. It was true -- especially with the payments that he was already making on that ring that Wesley hopefully didn't know about -- but the idea of him putting aside lab equipment in favor of a heating bill was horribly suspect. Even as he heard himself speak, he knew that ( ... )

Wes held his breath. He knew Dok was trying to hide something when he spoke like that-- nervous and rushing over his words; what cinched it was how quickly his muscles tensed under Wesley's slender but calloused fingers.

"Dok, please take off your shirt. What...what could you possibly want to hide from me, after everything we've been through?" Shifting in bed to face his partner in the gloom, the hand that had been on his shoulder drifted to a pale collarbone. There wasn't an inch above there that Wes didn't know by heart now and in a way it shocked him that they hadn't addressed this sooner.

As his partner decended into what could only be a terrified silence, Wes leaned in, head resting against Dok's shoulder. "It's okay...you know that, right? Whatever it is, it'll always be okay..."
