Mr. Baron was as bad as Alba's mom. That was settled. Despite her protests that she could put on a hat and button a coat, he made sure she did everything perfectly. Even though she already had. Just like being back home.

"I can lead well, as soon as you pick a store." Alba didn't really know where to start when it came to stores, but once you got her in one, she was fine. But when Mr. Baron mentioned not having it look like a house of ill repute, she couldn't help but burst into giggles with no explanation. It was just completely silly!

"Aren't your horses cold?" she asked as she climbed into the carriage and sat down.

"The town being as small as it is, it seemed a number of stores may carry what we need, so I was considering parking along Main Street and walking." Though said parking was always easier said than done, as there were only a handful of (largely ornamental) carriage hitches along the main causeway. Thankfully it was much harder to steal something that belonged to the Nobility than it seemed--not that anyone had tried yet, of course.

After circling the block twice, they finally found a suitably large space to eek the carriage into, and the door sprung open, steps flipping out to aid their exit.

"They should be alright for now, they're designed to survive The Frontier, but the extra supplies for them were in Miska's carriage." Byron explained, boots compacting the snow as they exited in front of second-hand shop whose display case was glittering with every color and type of lights.

Alba nodded. "That makes sense." She hopped out of the carriage and followed along. "But no one should be out all the time in the cold and the snow. Even if they're horses. Especially if they're horsies! Was it even this cold there?"

She skipped along, making tiny footprints in the snow before bending down for a second and scooping it up into her gloves. A perfect snowball for later. "How about this one?" she pointed to a store with her free hand.

Byron couldn't help a loving chuckle. "I assure you the carriage house is more than adequate, and compared to areas of The Frontier, Canada is rather balmy. The North has been known to reach well into the negative hundreds in winter." He gave her a second to take that in. "But if it makes you feel better, we can look for blankets for them tonight as well."

Byron let her move ahead, smiling at the image she created in the soft golden glitter of streetlights. There were moments she looked so much like the child of a Noble it stilled the thrum of his dark heart.

"As long as you leave the snowball outside." Somehow, Byron could help the feeling he knew how tonight would end, and it involved him cold and plattered in snow.
