Where River tended to float (corporeally or non), the Hotel seemed to be an anchor point. It had become one more-so in the past month or so, with the appearance of Johnny Smith and her subsequent adoption of him as another sort of family member. Now, though he'd moved to a house on the lake, habit still had River passing that way.

There was a man outside. A new man, visible in such a small town. He was pale, but colored outside of his natural outlines.

The sort of man you'd cross the street to avoid without really knowing why.

River stayed on, head canted slightly sideways when she stopped in front of him, hands thrust into the pockets of her coat. He looked like a doctor.

Dok watched as a young girl approached and smiled kindly when she reached earshot. She seemed like the shy type, which he greatly appreciated (it was, after all, better than the brazenly hateful type). Perhaps she would be easy to talk to.

"Ah, excuse me, miss," he began nervously, "I'm afraid I'm new here and have no idea what this town holds in the way of entertainment. Can you recommend any places of interest? Museums, galleries, theaters...anything like that?" he asked with a smile.

A moment later, that smile faltered into a look of concern. "And ah, if you could be so kind as to point me in the direction of the place that you choose, I would be most grateful," he laughed, "I've succeeded in getting myself a little lost here, the few times I've tried to find anything."

Understatement of the century. A biochemist he was, but a GPS he definitely was not.

"Small town with small people." She righted her head, and then tilted it the other way. The way she watched him, from the tonal shifts in his voice to the minuscule fidgeting in his smile, River seemed to be observing him more than anything. She twisted her hips a little, this way and that.

And gave the standard greeting.

"Not from around here. Another lost boy?"

"A-Ah...?"

Dok was more than a little confused by her actions. He flushed slightly, feeling quite like he was under the proverbial microscope.

Jeez, is this what it's like to be an amoeba?

A nervous laugh followed a graciously defeated smile. "I suppose you could say that, yes."

It would be a vast, vast understatement, but you could say that.

"My name is Dok, by the way," he said as though he had just remembered (which, in all honesty, he had). "If I'm going to ask you for directions, I may as well give you at least my name," he smiled. "And what is yours, miss...?"
