Who: Sirius and someone who is preferably not HP fandom What: Bored and wandering When: Monday afternoon Where: The cafe Rating: PG Status: Incomplete, OPEN
It wasn't too long after Sirius had ordered that Dok stepped up. "Ah, I'll have...a blended iced coffee with ah...is that chai listed over there? These glasses aren't too good in this light," he laughed nervously. Upon the cashier's affirmation, he decided. "Yes, I'll have that, then! Thank you!" he ordered cheerfully in his very obvious German accent before moving aside to wait for his drink.
That was when he noted Sirius. The man seemed particularly troubled, but Dok was in no place to say anything. It had been a long time since psychology had been his forte, hadn't it?
Still, he couldn't help but offer a kind smile. "Not really warm enough out to be ordering iced coffee, is it?"
Sirius started, too lost in his own little world to have noticed anyone else in the line, let alone anyone paying attention to him. He glanced over and quickly tried to make sense of what had been asked of him. The accent didn't help.
Twenty years earlier in his life, Sirius would have been all for striking up conversations with random strangers while waiting for coffee. But Sirius was not as he had been at age fifteen, and nowadays, social situations often eluded him. "Wouldn't be my first choice, at least," he responded after a moment.
Dok smiled, though he fidgeted a little as he thought of what to say next. It had been a long time since he'd been in a place as casual as a coffee house, and even longer since he had gotten himself into a conversation with a stranger that didn't have anything to do with ordering food or making travel arrangements.
To put it lightly, "socially awkward" was a good way to describe someone in his state.
"I suppose it's just a habit to order something like that, regardless of the weather. Iced chai is really good! Not to say that warm chai isn't, I'm just not used to ordering it in--"
He realized, then, that he'd started rambling. Flushing pale then red, he laughed nervously. "I'm sorry, I tend to ramble," he said, clearly more than a little embarrassed.
In an attempt to divert attention away from his embarrassment, he reached a hand out from where it had been in the pocket of his coat. "Ah, and where are my manners? I'm Dok. I just moved here from Europe. It's nice to meet you!"
With a snort, Sirius shook his head. Alright, so maybe he wasn't the worst there was at all this; this guy was proving that well enough. "That's alright. I've heard worse." Which was true. Harry's little friends could talk an ear off if prompted, not to mention Tonks. (Who Sirius tended to avoid thinking about in the interest of not needing bad blood toward any more family members.)
He reached out his own hand and shook Dok's briefly. "Sirius Black. I came here from--" from death "from England a couple years ago."
