Bod couldn't quite figure out why he was nervous. True, it had been a while since he'd last seen Rose, but he liked her, and he liked spending time with her-- he'd looked forward to ( Read more... )

"You all right there?"

It never took a lot of time to get from one point to the next in a town this small, and walking wasn't much trouble, but that never stopped Rose from being right on time. She liked to think she wasn't ever late, unless fashionably so, but maybe she ought to have left a bit early. Bod looked about ready to shake right out of his own skin. It would have been funny if she didn't know him.

Rose slid into the chair opposite and reached out to steal the menu from him.

Bod blinked at her, not even resisting as she pulled the menu out of his grasp. "How- how did you..." He looked at the window, then at the door behind him, then back at her again. And then he smiled, seeming to relax a little bit.

"Hello, Rose."

"Breathe, it's all right, yeah?" Rose smiled, biting her tongue between her teeth. She patted his hand, winked and glanced down at the menu. God, that was a lot of choices. Maybe later she'd chat up Ianto and convince him to let her have some free samples.

"How long have you been here?"

"Here? Just a few minutes actually." He paused, checking his believability meter, then admitted, "In town? Prrooooooobably close to an hour." Biting his lip, he said, "I do that. If I have somewhere to be, I end up getting there SO early, and then sitting and waiting forever... the woman I work for says she doesn't understand how I can do that, because sitting and waiting would make her crazy but then she's perpetually five minutes late and that would make me crazy, so..." Realizing what he's said, he backpedals. "But I wasn't just sitting and waiting today! I walked around the block. A couple times, actually. Almost went to the bookstore, but knowing me I would have been there too long..."

He glanced up. Rose was smiling at him. He thought he recognized that smile; Neil often smiled like that, usually when he, Bod, had done something ridiculous or awkward. Neil always seemed to find it amusing, or endearing, or something. Feeling self-conscious, he took a deep breath, and tried to be normal. "How are you?"
