On the kitchen counter there rested several plastic bags of clothes--pants and plain shirts and sweaters--a stray, limp cotton arm poked out, the same dark red hue as Wesley's service uniform. He'd finally broken down and gone shopping, glad for the discount racks. Over the last few weeks he'd been dividing his pay checks evenly between food, basic essentials and necessary computers and electronics. As natural line of sight progressed down the hallway into the living room, it would be greeted with a floor and table strewn with mechanical bits, a soldering iron, and a small pile of stripped copper wire. Wesley sat in the middle of the floor, bent over a slender, mounted metal tube, tinkering with a nest of intricate circuitry--there were a few brief sparks as the energy crystal he'd ordered was mounted and set into the power cell.
"Ouch!" One spark took the oppurtunity to arch over his ring finger, leaving a lingering, stinging numbness in it's wake. The energy crystal wasn't as high grade as it should be, but he could still only afford so much; it would have to do. Taking a moment to shake feeling back into the digit the power cell was placed atop the metal tube, where it crackled once and then was silent. Finally, Wes placed the cell where it belonged, locking it firmly in place. A switch was flipped on the side of the metal tube and there was a satisfying hum of energy all around him.
Now he just needed to test it. And for that, he needed Dairine.
