The Doctor turned, leaning back on the bar to look at the patrons. He'd come looking for Jack, but the man in question wasn't going to be around until later. But since he was here and really had nothing pressing to do, he thought he would listen to the music for a bit.

Seeing an older woman approaching the bar, the Doctor grinned. "Hallo," he greeted. "You're a new face. Well, new to me anyway. I imagine you've had your face for quite awhile, in which case it's the same old face. Not that I'm calling you old. I'm not really one to talk. I'm the Doctor by the way," he said, holding out a hand, smiling.

"Huh. That's new. I haven't heard any of the other magic users having issues with their magic."

The Doctor frowned, attempting to sort out how that all fit into the scheme of things. He came up with nothing.

At Endora's look, he grinned, giving her one in return. "Then you'll absolutely love, Jack."

"Lucky me," Endora said drily. She sighed. "It might not be this place. When witches...go senile, they lose their powers. I've never known it to happen so completely or quickly, but it's possible."

Endora laughed. It had been ages since she'd flirted with anyone remotely near her league, and she did like to play. "I expect I will. Though you're not so bad yourself."

The Doctor wiggled an eyebrow. "Yeah, I clean up nice," he said, straightening his suit and winking at Endora. "And you don't appear to be the least bit senile, if that's any consolation. More like a beautiful witch in the prime of her life, am I right?" he grinned.

Endora laughed. "You certainly do," she said, playfully looking him up and down.

It was nice to be praised, and Endora's smile widened. "I certainly hope so." She tilted her head. "You're a fellow traveler. What brings you here?"

"I can't seem to stay away from weird and wrong," the Doctor grinned. "The weirder a situation is, the more wrong things are, the more likely you'll find me smack dab in the middle of it, trying to sort it out. And you've got to admit, this town is a bit of both."

But it had given him Rose back, which he couldn't complain about. But there was a part of him that wondered what would happen if he did manage to fix it all. Would everyone he'd come to care about, just disappear?

"Weird and wrong," Endora repeated. "Yes, there's no denying that. Tell me, have you determined why certain people are drawn here and others aren't?"

For example, why she was here without her daughter.

(OOC-Is it okay if Endora senses something about Donna?)

(ooc: This Doctor only knows Donna from 'Runaway Bride'. He hasn't had her as a companion yet. She popped in AV, then disappeared again)

"I haven't the slightest idea, which is why I can't seem to leave here for any length of time. The puzzle keeps drawing me back."

He looked at Endora in speculation. "There's these two devices, out in the ravine. Well, one is buried now, but I'm working on that. Anyway, the one that is buried seemed to center around death, or at least, the pathways between life and death. The other appears to affect time, but in ways I'm not familiar with, which is saying something considering I'm a Time Lord."

(Ooc: Oh, okay! Then never mind.)

Endora chuckled softly. "Not used to problems you can't solve? I can certainly empathize with that."

Endora was intrigued by what the Doctor had discovered--this was more than anyone else she had met knew. "Then one item searches through time to find us...and one cheats death, if necessary."

"That's as good a summary as anything else I've heard," the Doctor the sighed. "My fear is that there is another one out there that we haven't found yet, one that accounts for space and dimension. But if it's out there, none of my scans can pick up an energy signature."

Endora nodded. Really, it was deeply pleasing to be talking to someone not confined by human conceptions of space and time.

"Hm," she said. "That makes sense, but why is it your fear?"

"Because it's an unknown variable that may or may not exist. I feel like I'm piecing together a puzzle with all the important bits missing from the middle. The Mas--yor, Mayor Saxon, has a few ideas of his own, but he's not sharing at the moment."

Stubborn prat.

"Oh, I see," Endora said. "But what good does it do to understand it if there's no controlling it?" Witchcraft was more intuitive than the Doctor's methods, it seemed. The how in witchcraft wasn't as important as the what. "And who is Saxon?"

For a moment, the full power of a Time Lord was in the Doctor's voice and expression.

"Because if I did understand it, I might be able to control it," the Doctor countered. "I could stop the randomness that plagues this area. Doors between dimensions shouldn't be opened, it creates chaos when worlds collide. I can feel the wrongness deep in my bones, so badly it makes my teeth itch. I'm a Time Lord, and it's my responsibility to fix this, to avoid a tear in the fabric of time and space itself. It's what I do."

Endora wasn't easily intimidated. However, the power and strength of the Doctor's voice made her think that, even at her most powerful, she would not want to challenge him. "I see."

Something in his tone jarred her memory. Time Lord, he'd called himself, which meant Gallifrey...oh. Gallifrey. She didn't know exactly what had happened, but anyone with any magic or sensitivity had heard the screams. The aftereffects lasted for days, and it hadn't been uncommon to explain unease or a headache by saying, "The dead cry out from Gallifrey."

There was something behind her simple words of understanding, but the Doctor didn't know what. He couldn't read her expression either, but something in her eyes had changed when she looked at him.

"What is it?" he asked, frowning.
