Robin arrived in the lobby of the first hotel she could find, maybe she would find her manager or her mom here. Unfortunalty the receptionist told she was wrong, he hadn't even heard of Robin Sparkles. Pff, where had he been for the past 2 months? She turned to the door when she saw a young red headed girl coming out of the stair way. She seemed a little young to be on her own as well, but it seemed there were a lot kids in town. Robin was not a fan of kids, the were just so... childish. But it wasn't like there was much else to do.
Red looked over when the other addressed her. Funny. The girl's hair color reminded her of what her own used to look like. Thank god for hair dye. Observing her for a moment, Red took long, striding steps in her direction, putting on her best smile.
"Hello!" She waved, twiddling her fingers at the other. Of all the things that happened in her dreams, interacting with people usually wasn't typical.
Maybe this girl knew what was going on in this town. But it's not like Robin could just ask straight out "Hy do you know why everyone seems to be kids? and why noyone has heard of my hugely successful hit 'Let's go to the mall'?" It was literally number one on the charts for like weeks, that is 'til Sarah McLachlan and her "Building a Mystery" knocked her off.
"Hello do you happen to be aware of uh.. well some strange things going on?"
"Strange?" Red frowned a little and tilted her head off a bit to one side. "I dunno! I mean, most of my dreams are pretty weird. So this is kinda normal. Except I don't usually talk to people in my dreams like this."
Barney had woken up to find himself in a strange, and large, hotel room. This was disconcerting because usually when his mom took off, he and James was left with the next door neighbour. What was more disconcerting was that James was no where to be found.
Thinking that James would return, Barney waited for his older brother with patience far beyond an eight-year-old's ability. But Barney had always been patient. Came from waiting for Mom. Came from waiting for answers. Came from a lot of things.
He liked to think his dad was really patient, too.
But James didn't return, and now Barney was worried. So he had, after wrinkling his nose at all the stuffy suits, dressed in way-too-big jeans and longsleeve shirt. Kinda liked it actually; it kept him hidden. And with that, he was making his way downstairs to see if the person in the lobby knew anything. What he found however were other kids. Older.
The girl with red hair seemed ready to start fuming and spouting Mandarin curses at the other, arms folded and foot tapping impatiently against the marble floors. She'd always hated being treated like a child. She was fourteen. Fourteen! And on the way to being trained as a Companion. Red had outgrown childhood.
About to open her mouth to say something scathing, she noted begrudgingly that they had an audience. Flicking blue eyes in the little boy's direction, her folded arms moved to her hips. "Um. Yes?"
He stared briefly and then stepped away from where he had been sort of hiding. Barney made a small face then cleared his throat. "Um. Do either of you know where we are? I don't remember falling asleep here.."
He squirmed a little, pulling on the long sleeves of his shirt and readjusting the belt yet again to make sure the jeans didn't fall off. "And do you know where I can get clothes that fit?"
Robin turned to see what the red headed girl was looking at, yet another kid, and this one was even younger than the girl. What kind of parents leave so many kids alone. Well if the girl was telling the truth then how had she ended up here?
"Oh great, are your parents around little boy?" She really hoped they were.
