Kate'd been walking around trying to figure out exactly where the hell she is - and why this place looked nothing like Illinois. No sign of her mother - even Wayne would be somewhat of a welcome sight right about now.
She glanced up just in time to see a boy around her age who looked just as confused as she did.
James raised an inquisitive eyebrow when he saw the pretty brunette up the street a ways. Canada sure did have plenty of nice-lookin' young ladies 'round these parts, he noted as he grinned and strolled up to her. "Hi there," he said, smiling. James had never been shy 'round anyone he was interested in, figgerin' it would be ta his advantage to know if th' other was interested, as well: it'd expediate the process either way, really.
"Hi," Kate responded, her voice relatively quiet even as he approached her. She was still somewhat on her guard, but her smile was sweet enough. It would be enough for her to gauge whether or not he was someone she needed to keep an eye on.
She seemed quiet, maybe a little shy, but that weren't nothin' James wasn't used ta gettin' 'round. At least she was responding. "Hey, you know this town well 'nough?" He waggled the keys he had found. "Tryin' to, uh, find my uncle's place."
Although he hadn't noticed it yet, maybe because he's dumb or maybe because he's distracted by the pretty girl, there is actually a small keychain on the key ring, with a smudged and scrawled address in a little plastic casing.

She stood there for a moment, smiling awkwardly.
