I didn't like The Wheel of Time series, or most other cash-cow drawn-out, cardboard-characterization series, so this is probably what makes me agree with some of these points where you didn't

That's kind of funny, because the two things about Leonard's writing that I dislike are the skimpy descriptions and "writing like you talk"-ness. He's good with action and dialogue, but where some authors serve thick and juicy tenderloin, his narration is a thin and stringy joint.
But anyway. You've never heard of Elmore Leonard?? He writes dime store novels, westerns and mysteries. Famously known for writing the novel behind the film Get Shorty.
Yeah, skimpy descriptions earn you no brownie points with me. If I'm reading a novel for pleasure, I'm not looking for it to pull a bunch of inaccessible literary tricks where I have to hunt in dialogue for what a character looks like. If I want to read people who write like they talk, I can go to a chat room. Happy medium, Mr. Leonard.
But no, I'd never heard of the guy. I never saw "Get Shorty," but it doesn't make me want to read him knowing he wrote it.
