Noel Pearson has an insightful opinion piece in The Australian, which he starts by requesting a new metaphor for a multicultural society, and ends by skewering the reactionary canard of "multiculturalism gone too far".

This song I'm listening to is odd - Fall meets Devo. I joined last.fm about two weeks ago. It hasn't recommended me anything ( Read more... )

It's a very comprehensive answer to that line of thought. It's nice to have that type of thing in your mental armoury, because there's enough propaganda floating around at the moment to make one wonder whether multiculturalism is doomed to failure ...

Put it to you this way, I haven't worried about whether my electronic abs are ripped enough in quite awhile.

*nod* It does tend to get shunted off high priority as soon as you need to make a cup of coffee.

i can, however, type correctly without looking. skinjournal sounds like a Retin-A support group. "Day 64: Face so dry my lips cracked again. Everyone still asking 'how the other guy looks'. Have resolved not to kill parents. Yet."

Ok, I'll think about it. I make mixtapes for my little brother all the time at the moment. Would you be wanting a "stuff I like" theme or a "stuff I think you'll like" theme?

Wow... that was quite an interesting read from the cprogramming community from 6/6/6. 2005 is more standards-compliant than 1. Plus, his win32 argument is lousy... which win32? Each 32-bit os designed by ms is slightly different... and the APIs reflect this; MSDN is available online for free; and MFC is buggy. So, by those/his own points, 2005 express is more "full-featured" than 1.

That guy - theswede - is an incredible prat.

I've seen him try to take people down in arguments with sheer persistence before (from memory it was a hideously under-informed argument about the relative merits of GNOME and KDE).

To favour Visual C++ 1.0 over 2005 Express is laughable. If I was talking to a prospective employer (in 2006, as opposed to 1993) I know which I'd prefer to be able to say I had used.

I'm glad someone read that thread and agreed with me :-)
