A nice article from Possum's Pollytics explaining, in the face of "shock horror", "incredible turnaround" and "Rocky VI" articles about the Labor defeat of the LNP in Queensland, why in fact the statistics and polls didn't lie at any stage about probable outcomes. I think it is mostly a case of
"Polls predict a relatively comfortable, somewhat uninteresting win"
being seen as not news.

The push to manufacture some sort of excitement and thrill leads to ignoring pretty much any intelligent analysis of the information.

Particularly annoying in science journalism, where some vaguely interesting research is billed with some phenomenally ground breaking impact.
