Music is essentially language anyway : Being Erica Fanmix

Oct 14, 2011 01:35

Lately I've been thinking more about music, especially how it functions in terms of fandom.  And how cool it is.  Which functionally means I have a question: do ya'll have songs or artists that you associate with Being Erica?  Or maybe just a character, or a song used in the show that has never quite left your mind?  If you only had one song to ( Read more... )

You know, I really never liked Bring Me To Life as a song, but I LOVE it in the context of your vid? Makes perfect sense. I'm in full support of you doing another vid to Twain's song (because I don't like it either, and you're the only one who could convince me *g* )

Where Does the Good Go is AMAZING. I think I marked it trivial during the ep, which was stupid of me.

I LOVELOVELOVE Winter. I'm a sucker for anything that changes tempo, but it sounds like nothing I listen to, raw and free and alive :D

The most weird thing is I don't have real feeling for Bring Me To Life as well. And yet I've made TWO fanvids to this song. Suprisingly it works really well when it has a suitable background.

As for Winter, I heard it first in Yagudin's Short Programme at the Olympics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktu7UhUTx40. His performance was so wonderful and heartbreaking that I fell in love with the music immediately.

LOL! It's funny it works out that way, but kudo's to you for seeing that it *would* work - I'd just dismiss it out of hand.

Looking forward to listening to your mix, although there are a couple songs on there I already associate indelibly with other things.

I second scally's comment on Where Does the Good Go being a favourite from the show. The one from last season's finale also stuck in my head for ages, and seems quite appropriate for Erica - this is the original version:

Lyrics: You say you've got trouble, you say you've got pain... You've been scouring your consience, raking through your memory

I don't think I have any others I've linked to this show yet, but there is one I've been loving recently that I can see applying to DrT, now that I think about it... Fountain, Fountain, we are the same / all that anyone ever has for you
are the things you reflect back to them

It's always a risk. Though I would say that this only opens the door for a multiplicity of interpretation. The initial connotation, combined with the new suggestion allows for free association of meaning with global benefit. *g*

I second scally's comment

I totally remember neither of those songs, but they are both pretty fantastic! "This is the Sea" also reminds me of Leo a lot - at least what he wanted to be, before the fire thing.

Ah, I'm going to guess that you know Running Up That Hill from Bones? *g*

Fountain reminds me unaccountably of Grant Lee Phillips when she hits the soulful notes. It would make the perfect background for a silent collage/clips BE scene either of Erica and DrT or everyone, actually.

You are correct. :D It's my other currently active fandom. The other song association I have from that list is with a book series though, much harder to guess.

That would be great.

Ah Bones. W13 used it recently to great effect - I can't imagine what I'd have thought if I knew it from Bones first.

For the book-related one. Complete bafflement so wild guess: 3 Libras or London?

Isn't it? Cabaretlights used it in her vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UqGcNP0AVM) and ever since I can't get it out of my head :D
