So, school is coming along. I seem to be doing pretty well in my classes overall. A few things stick out, though.
First, in our Tools class, the teacher handed back an assignment to everyone but me to redo, so they could improve on the mark they would have gotten first. I figured it was because I got a 6/5. Well, I didn't: I got a 4/5. I wondered why she wouldn't give me a chance to redo it. When I asked her about it, she said that if I was really worried about the 1 point I could redo it. But she also said that one point really wasn't worth redoing it.
Then, in Public Relations, I got 8/10 on our first "practice" assignment. (Not for real marks, but rather just so we could get a feel for how she marked things.) I made two tiny grammar errors, so - fair enough. An 8/10 seemed reasonable. Then we got our first real assignment. We got it back yesterday, and I got 9/10. There were no marks on my paper at all. When I asked the instructor about it, she said, "A perfect 10 is impossible."
Nice. So, I'm going to consider any */10 score to actually be */9, if it's impossible to get a 10.
Now, I'd sort of suspected that the grading was going to be like this when we got all of our class syllabi in the first week of classes. The scoring here goes:
90-100: A+
80-89: A
70-79: B
and so on. So I could see her wanting to reserve the 10/10 score for something that totally blew her out of the water.
It's still annoying, though.
Anyway, other than that things seem to be going ok so far.
Now, if you'll excuse me: I'm supposed to be working on an assignment right now.
*edit: OMG I'm one class away from having NO homework this weekend! *skwee*
*edit 2: Haha, I actually got a 4/5 on that first assignment. I guess that first story didn't make much sense to you guys...
