We're not. Really.

We are not crazy cat people. Really.

I mean, I love dogs. I am totally a dog person. Cats are nice, but I love dogs. If we had time for a dog, I'd get one in an instant. But we both work long days. We have a small yard. And we have three cats.

... *watches as people count on their fingers* ...

Remember Mary?

Mary was one of our foster kittens from the first bunch we got. Mary quickly became one of our favorites because of her personality.

We returned them to the shelter two weeks ago and picked up the new bunch. Mary and her mom were put up for adoption. I visited them the first week. The second week, I could hardly believe that Mary, especially, was still there! I watched as people passed her by, and it was just breaking my heart to see her staring out from behind the cage bars as people picked out different cats and left her behind.

It also became a bit of a protective thing, I guess. No one else's home would be good enough for her except ours. She was such an outgoing, loving and smart little kitten - what if she ended up someplace where the people declawed her, or ignored her, or had her put to sleep as soon as she got her first semi-serious illness? :(

So plonq and I went back to the shelter last night. We did the whole "Well, if she's not there, then it wasn't meant to be" thing. But she was there.

She still likes to stretch, but she's gotten bigger.

And she's ours now. She's been redubbed "Merry" since that's what her name was supposed to be in the first place.

No, we're not getting any more cats. We knew we could handle a max of three cats... (And besides, the city of Winnipeg has a bylaw that says you can't own more than three cats and three dogs in one house.) So now we have my cat, Plonq's cat, and a "shared" cat. No more!

If we ever get a fourth cat (o.O), then you can call us crazy cat people.
