Before he knew it, he mirrored her smile with one of his own, finally gathering the courage to take the ring out of his pocket. It was plain, but it was metal, compliments of Kate, who someone had told Carson was the only blacksmith on the island.
"I suppose I should do this the right way then," Carson said, standing up only to drop down to one knee in front of her.
