One of my favorite daily sites, Goodreads have a new feature this year, which I truly love: it records our book reading challenge and keep it updated as soon as we put 'read' status to it. It's pretty neat

As much as I love GoodReads, some of the way they record things bugs me. :) But that sounds like a good goal!
And I agree about branching out! I think I could probably use some more general fiction, too. I know I've gotten burned out by some genres . . . or even just some authors.

I know I've gotten burned out by some genres . . . or even just some authors There are some authors whose works I simply quit reading because I just get totally burned out by them
Alright, I'll bite. I joined the challenge but I'm definitely not as ambitious as you with 500. Short stories or not :p I'm going for a cool 35 and hoping I make it to 20 at the rate I'm going, lol. I need to drop Eat, Pray, Love it's slowing me down.
I think it's a GREAT way to keep track of your goal and make you somewhat motivated. Goodreads is one of sites I ALWAYS visit every single day, especially because it helps me to inform about new titles from M/M genre, from my flist there
I need to drop Eat, Pray, Love it's slowing me down.
That is why, I never only have one book to read. I always have several. Therefore, I can just drop one and move on to other titles. There is no point of continue reading books that DO NOT interest me what-so-ever
My sister and I made a challenge for ourselves. Which is to read six books per month. So that is 72 books in a year. I had not calculated that yet but when I read what you wrote about setting a challenge at Goodreads, I had to know. It will be hard though... Cause most books I wanna read this year have loads of pages...
That is a VERY good target!! We should never stop reading :). I think Goodreads is a great place for book information and actually get recommendations from people who share the similar taste in book
Holy cow your read SO MUCH!!!! How do you do it?!? I can't even make it to 50 books a year. I always blame it on the TV but you do watch a lot of movies and shows yourself, so I guess that doesn't really count. Do you sleep at all? *g* Or do you just read super fast?

I'm freaky that way *lol*. Well, I am a fast reader, to begin with. I could gobble up 70 - 100 pages in an hour. So let's say that the common 300 pages novel, I could read it around 3 - 5 hours, depend on how "easy" the language is for me. Now, usually, I do spend about those hours to read -- one to two hours before I sleep, one to two hours when I get up in the morning, and one-two hours in between. It helps for the last few months that I am not really working in an office anymore; I have more free time
I wish I could read that fast! It normally takes me about 2-3 hours at least for about 100 pages (depending on if I'm reading in German or in English) and somehow most of the books I'm reading have at least 500 pages.^^ But yeah I also don't get to read much every day (cause after work I'm often just too tired to read so I just turn on the TV), so yeah not the best circumstances. *gg* I really admire people who can read that much though! There's so many stuff I wanna read but I feel like I'm never getting to it... =/
Well, even if I started to read short stories and goodreads would count it,I still have the 50 books goal here at LJ and there I only count full books ^^
