Out & About: Places and Things

Jan 07, 2009 13:30

Since some of us can - or are kinda forced to - make this weekend last a wee longer, I figured we'd share some places we go while we are at the Con, after, or even beforehand.

What are some good places to eat?
Transportation into the city?
Staying around London?
Are you staying at the hotel, or at a nearby one?
Do you have a "first night" ritual?

!food, !mod, !travel

You i never thought about going down earlier and staying longer. Been to London for years and only ever seen the hotels and airport, lol. Would be nice to actually see some sights :)

Ya. Well you know I am from the States, so it's a wee bit longer for me! And I am all about vacations, so I was thinking of doing what I did last time, come on time, and leave a week(ish) later... I can get a sub for my classes (cause I WILL be a full time teacher by than). And... IT'S LONDON! how can I not stay a bit in my new fav city? And tour the city with wacky friends!!

Yea i haven't made up my mind about how long i will be staying or anything like that, and i cannot for the life of me decide if i wanna stay at the Renaissance or somewhere slightly um cheaper. One group of my friends plan to stay somewhere else, and before they mentioned it the idea of staying somewhere else never crossed my mind, now i am torn. Do i just stay at the renaissance or go with my besties? Hmmmm
*is confused*
So yea who is staying there or going somewhere nearby?

I'm in the same kindasorta bind. I have my 2 girls who we bunked last time with, and our friends (mutual *wink*) so ya... we shall see when it gets closer to the con.

As for staying, I'm coming from the States, and I damn will live up my vacation. It's a LONG flight there and back, and that's why I plan on staying a week... may bat my eyes at besties and see if I can crash at their flat (again). I just love traveling and it seems like a waste to be there for a weekend when all I will be doing is wishing I could see more! Plus, London is my fav place (for being there only once!) and how can you just "visit" your fav place?!

Do you have a "first night" ritual?

Hang out at hotel lobbies :P

:P that was too easy. before the con: hang out in the lobby, meet and squee. During the con, when not in Q&A, hang in the lobby, talk shop and get starred at by the staff; after con, go to local pub and have real Brit food. While hanging out... just not in the lobby!

*giggles*

:P that was too easy.

But you asked ;D Maybe we should come up with something more interesting - like a rootbeer party. I'll bring the chewing gum ;P

What are some good places to eat? - Nandos, Pret, there are some decent pubs in the city with a reasonably priced menu. I'd say find a Wetherspoons but its a brewery chain and you have to know what pubs they own. Then you have your classic fast food places which are pretty easy to come across. There's a good pizza place in Earls Court but you need to travel or half an hour to get there from the Hotel
Transportation into the city? - I'd say stick with the tube. Taxi's will fleece you especially since the Con site is so far out of the City Center. Busses are ok if you know what numbers you need to catch and their schedual. If you're new to London stick to the tube.
Staying around London? - I'm in on Friday and out Monday evening. I'm probably around London during the day on Monday but I can't stay any later ... I don't think (will figure it out closer to teh date)
Are you staying at the hotel, or at a nearby one? - I've booked my room in the con hotel, I learnt my lesson after Peg3. If you wanna know that story just ask!
Do you have a ( ... )
