More FFXIII-2 design fuckery

It's about Serah again, no surprise there. From Siliconera:

Yuko Oshima isn’t just a Final Fantasy XIII-2 judge, she’s also a costume designer. Square Enix asked the AKB48 idol to design two costumes for Serah and her moogle. Starting on November 15, fans will be able to vote on which one makes it into the game as downloadable content on the ( Read more... )

I... actually really like certain elements of both of those costumes. I think they'd be really cute if they hadn't gone the extra mile of skanking her up as much as they could. The first one would be real cute if the waistcoat was longer and her shorts actually matched it, and I just love the fuck out of the second one (THOSE SHOES) but the little tube bra thing is ruining everything else. :C

I think the designs would be a million times better if they just covered her up a little more. I liked the waist coat too, but the shorts... ugh. Maybe if there were paired with black tights I'd like it more. I also like the boots, except for the weird metal thing coiling up it.

You're right, the tube top is ruining the whole thing haha. I don't mind the red hood, I think I'm just blinded by my hate of the chains and the short skirt thing/underwear combo ahhh

Also now that I'm thinking about it more I hate that I bring this up so much, the hair. To me she looks like a little girl with that hairstyle and that's probably why I don't like seeing this character in revealing clothes. JUST TWEAK THE HAIR GOD

First I was initially horrified by how seemingly ageless Serah still looks (ffs, even Hope looks older than her now, how the hell does that happen, Square-Enix), but these outfits are...urgh. The first would be cute if they incorporated some of the ideas that you've already brought up (because really? shorts?), or given her a bigger shield, but it looks like an excuse to put her in as little clothing as possible for fanboy bait, and Oshimo isn't doing a good job at hiding it. The second is no better. WHY ARE HER STOCKINGS ASSYMETRICAL LENGTHS, THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

If it was just meant for a casual outfit, fine, I can see why people would buy them even if I couldn't fathom using them myself, but she's supposed to be going into battle with these things on her! akhlakga.

Yes, as casual clothes I wouldn't really have a problem with them. As 'battle ready' outfits though... no.

At least with casual clothes, you can argue that Serah has bad taste in clothes, or people in her generation like to dress like that on purpose. It looks odd, but I can see why others would think it's cute enough to wear. In battle, she's practically asking to get her ass kicked. Why does Square-Enix think this is okay? She's not a healer or a summoner, ffs!! *flips over tables*

(Then again, I think Square-Enix in general needs to stop and examine what they're doing with their games, or they need to put aside the Final Fantasy series if they're just going to copy and paste the same character designs over and over. I'll admit I'm intrigued by the supposed multiple endings that FFXIII-2 has to offer, but FFX-2 sorta had something similar sooo...)

Speaking of copy paste, have you seen the characters in Type-0? I mean the game looks good and all but it's a parade of the same two faces. They can't disguise it with the clothes this time because the cast are in school uniforms, there's barely any variations with the characters faces and that really annoys me.
