Days 4 and 5: The end of color, the (re)dawning of B&W

Jul 11, 2006 19:21

Switching back to black and white is a bit jarring. My teacher wants us to shoot 5-10 rolls a week, which is significantly more than I normally would. But the nice part is he said my more recent B&W photos (from the fall) are mysterious and evocative. And my earlier stuff is literal and obvious. Well, I think he's probably right ( Read more... )

These are actually really neat photos. I spent a few moments trying to guess what the first one was of, and for some reason I had it in my head that it was a carnival game. I guess that's just how I think.

I always check out your photos when you post them, you're really talented. I envy that because while I'm fairly decent at shooting a moving image, I'm really just very mediocre with a still camera. I have a lot to learn.

Well, that's okay, because when it comes to moving images I'm completely bewildered. I am kind of interested in collage films, though, even if I've poked around only a little bit.

ooh, congratulations on the camera, faith! i've been admiring leica cameras for years, but it makes little sense for me to save up for one when I don't take photos anymore. it's beautiful, though!!

Thanks! I've wanted one for years, and after having a Rebel 2000 for nearly 10 years, it's quite the pay off. I told the guy who was helping me at the store it was a mega-upgrade! I found and am ordering a lens today and I just can't wait to start using it. I have to shoot two rolls for my class tomorrow and I feel a bit like I'm biding time until I can se the Leica.

I've been meaning to say that I've been enjoying these photography posts of yours, especially the ones from the exhibit about Africa, but I coudn't think of something really good to say about them. So, thanks for now, and maybe I'll say something more insightful about them later.

Also, I think your color photography is very intriguing, and I hope you keep it up.

Thank you.

I've been thinking a lot about what you've been writing and that exhibit, bouncing the two off one another along with some of ICP's past exhibits/policies and "Third World" Latin American cinema. Representation, representation, representation!
