This week's
b7friday topic is "rescues." I don't know how well this fits, or whether it actually works, or, um, much of anything. But it's something, anyway. 170 words. Spoilers (albeit probably fairly cryptic ones) for the entire series.
Ripples
Go back. Fix it. You have a time machine, a supernatural power. One change. Only one.
But which change, which moment? Gauda Prime? Go back, stop yourself, don't pull the trigger? Yes, but then you'd all be killed by troopers anyway.
So, a little farther, then. Don't go to the planet in the first place. Stay far, far away. Ah, yes, but could you live with that? With never knowing?
Farther still. Star One? Be careful. The tiniest change here, and the galaxy is overrun. Better not to risk it.
But where, then? How about the beginning? All the way back? Don't commit the fraud, don't trust Anna. That should fix it, surely? Except even then it was already too late. You were already a bitter, unhappy man, a man who never felt safe.
How far back do you have to go? Maybe the turning point was long before you ever existed: a hundred years ago, a thousand. Maybe you have to unmake the Federation entirely.
Maybe Blake was right.
