Surgery on Friday went fine-ish. I did in fact have a reason for my "monthly friend" to be hellish and hopefully we got that all cut out. I only got two incisions- one in the belly button and one near my left hip. The gas was hell on Friday and made me hurt near screaming level (since it was laparoscopic and they pump you full of gas to bloat you ( Read more... )

The worst part now? I have to figure out when exactly to upload the preprint to the arxiv server to get it strategically placed at the top of the email when it goes out. I think that's more complicated than getting the paper accepted!

We put our papers out before they get printed on the arxiv server. The problem is so many go out each day in this long email that you have to try to get yours at the top of the day's email to get people to notice it and read it. Actually checking the journals for new articles these days is so passe.

congrats, congrats, and um, congrats?

I find that percocet only works for "can't go to work or function normally with this" pain; with actual "lie on the floor crying all day" pain, percocet has a hard time. Morphine is the way to go there.

Er, where does the gas GO?

Yeah, I was so ticked off that one of the nurses was all "don't give her anything else, we have to get her out of here". Then of course one of the surgeons told me the problem was that my iv toradol was wearing off. So now I have a bunch of vicodin I need to remember to take to hazmat disposal the next time here in Pasadena.

Gas goes out via the normal outlets for gas or your body absorbs it. Unfortunately it migrates so I spent a couple of days with the gas collected in my shoulder or right under my diaphragm making it very uncomfortable to breathe.

Oh, keep the vicodin. Sooner or later somebody you know will develop shingles or something. It's not like anyone in your household is going to develop an addiction.

True, I might find a use for it. Just not really for me since I didn't find it helped much.

But god, don't mention shingles, the husband never got the freaking chicken pox as a kid and I worry about what he might catch now that a lot of people at work have kids at the germ spreading school age.
