Behold, more boating pics. For I was paddleboarding yesterday and the frost on the grass in combination with the fog in the air made for an enchanting atmosphere. I didn't even mind the cold (much) because it was so beautiful ( Read more... )

These are really nice. I can see what you mean about them being a little dark, but that just adds to the sense of timelessness and tranquility. And interestingly enough, the muted tones remind me of the subdued color palette you use in your artwork.

You're right! Those are some of my go-to shades for painting. I found the colors particularly appealing that day.

I tried to increase the brightness a bit in photoshop but lost nuance immediately so I posted them unchanged... I don't know enough about retouching photos yet. I'm watching a tutorial rn though, so maybe I'll practice on some of these.

It's way cool that those small "rivers" can be used like this so easily. Love the winter atmosphere in these. (Your phone camera is awesome.)

You have to keep an eye on the water level with these small ones. I tried to paddle this one near the spring and had to give up and hitchhike home because it was basically just an overgrown ditch with branches all over the place. But further downstream it's fine this time of year. I even paddled it once in July after the non-stop rain... the water level was a meter higher than it was now.

It fluctuates a lot with the small ones, too. I often take my bike the day before and take a look. Can save you some surprises.

Interested- extremely interested. vantiri November 28 2016, 02:54:08 UTC
So, is this some more of the waterways around Westphalia? I'm interested because you said previously that your boating expeditions were around Westphalia; and my interest in this is also academic. You see, I'm working on a College History Project about the Peace of Westphalia, the 30 Years War, Cardinal Richelieu's betrayal of Christendom, and all that mess that happened.
This sure is one beautiful region of the globe that you've shown by the pictures, and I want to personally thank you for showing me that local region, I'm guessing here about where you live, thanks to personal calculations on where you live being close to where you go boating.
Anyways, here's hoping to learn more about what's going on here better, as well as hoping that you'll understand my motives.
Sincerely;
Vantiri.

Oh, interesting! Yeah, I live in the city where the treaty was signed. :-) I've actually been in the room you see on that famous painting. One time an American tourist asked me for the way to the rathaus; he was a history professor and he was, like, fanboy levels of geeking out.

The creek above is river Aa. It looks very different where it runs through town though. Well, these views are not quite typical of the westphalian countryside since you can only see them by boat. I think i have a bunch more photos under my photo tag.

Yes, check out my tag "photos"... there are a lot of pics of the area amongs all the hedgehog and cat pictures. One of the most recent ones shows the historical bridge where the canal crosses the river ems (which, i don't know if it's relevant for your project but it's a pretty cool spot.)

if you have any questions or photo whishes, feel free to ask.:-)

Yeah, the fog did wonders for the photos. Ever couple meters there was another picture begging to be taken. I went paddling there again the other day with the sun shining, and while the sun felt really pleasant the motifs were not as interesting.
