This is Westphalia, but from an unusual perspective. I've been living here for decades and I'm only now seeing this side of it. I had no idea you could find such gorgeous spots here, most of them reachable by city bus.

They also put a lot of effort into re-naturing measures for one of the rivers, which was cut and turned more or less into a canal a hundred years ago... caused a lot of long-term problems like flooding so now there are plans to revert as much of that as possibe. Really bore fruits around here; it's beautiful and you can see a lot of rare animals.

I can only recommend it! I don't know which region you live in, but for example in my city you can rent a canoe for like 5 Euro an hour. I know some people who don't have a boat but rent one on occasion.
