haha to the "Horrors of Fanfic" article. One of my friends learned to speak/write English through fanfic, and it's helped her find numerous jobs in her home country. I wonder how the writer might feel about that?

Yeah, among many other benefits.

I mean, the mere idea that someone sees it as problematic that kids write a lot... just boggling.

Seriously. WHAT ARE THOSE CHILDREN THINKING, writing like that.

Loved that article. Ignorance on a platter! The concept that reasonably successful, middle-aged professionals might use fan fic to keep their sanity and let off some creative steam? Or the fact that manga isn't actually that obscure? Or that I have yet to meet a male writer? (I have some male readers, but writers?)

At least some fanfic writers do their research ...

I have met a few but yeah, they're definitely in the minority. But hey, he needed to get in the usual dose of gender essentialism: boys write Sci-fi, girls write paranormal romance.

I've been spoiled by all the more recent articles that actually got fic right... this piece is like from a time capsule.

I think I especially love the way the author of that fanfic article twice says "Harry Porter"

yeah...
